Balafons from Guinea

Made from Bené wood for the richest, most sweet tones you'll hear from a balafon, generally speaking they are heptatonic with 21 keys. Some are tuned to traditional tunings (more info on which can be found at the excellent resource for all traditional West African instruments www.kora- music.com) . The tones of the keys can be changed by shaving wood from either the middle or the ends to raise or lower the pitch. Our balafons also have the traditional style resonating gourds underneath which create a continuous buzzing when the keys are struck in quick succession. The Balafons are made by our expert Guinean craftsmen who  to create beautiful sounding Balafons in the time honoured tradition.
